Mr John Canaris B.Sc (Hons), AUSIMM: Executive Director

Mr Canaris moved from non-executive director to Executive Director of Torrens Energy effective 26 November 2008.

Mr Canaris holds a B Sc (Hons) in Geology from the University of Adelaide. He has worked extensively in the resource exploration industry for more than 16 years, his wide-ranging experience encompassing mineral and hydrocarbon exploration in Australia and internationally. In addition Mr Canaris has led business development in Australia and overseas, and has held senior positions including directorships in ASX listed companies for more than 5 years. Prior to co-founding Torrens Energy John Canaris was the CEO of a Lefroy Resources Limited, a ASX listed gold explorer with a track record of exploration success.

Mr Canaris has been instrumental in establishing and building Torrens Energy since its inception in 2006.

Dr Dennis Gee: Non-Executive Chairman

Dr Gee brings to the Company over 40 years of experience in government, industry and academia, reaching high levels in all three sectors. He served as Deputy Director of the Geological Survey of Western Australia and Director of the Northern Territory Geological Survey. He has held senior management positions in Reynolds Australia Metals, MIM Exploration and recently was the CEO of the Cooperative Research Centre for Landscape Environments and Mineral Exploration attached to CSIRO Perth for four years. 

Dr Gee is a Past President of the Geological Society of Australia, received the GSA Gibb Maitland Medal in 1986, and has been a Councillor of the AIG and AMEC. As Group Consultant for MIMEX in Perth he was responsible for providing high level advice for finding and evaluating gold resources around the world. During his four years as Director of the Northern Territory Geological Survey he turned the NTGS into a most dynamic and progressive organization highly valued by industry. He has managed both multimillion dollar budgets and large staff numbers. Torrens has secured in Dennis Gee someone who has the best possible qualifications in terms of industry knowledge, government knowledge and connections, and geoscientific ability.

Mr David Eiszele: Non-Executive Director

Mr Eiszele is a highly regarded expert in the Australian power infrastructure industry, having held senior management positions in the power industry in Australia. Mr Eiszele, who’s background is in engineering, previously worked as the as Managing Director of Western Power Corporation, having previously served as the Commissioner and Chief Executive of its predecessor entity, the State Energy Commission of WA and the Electricity Supply Association of Australia.

Mr Eiszele is also a past member of the Business Council of Australia, having served as deputy chair of the Energy and Greenhouse Task Force and was named Professional Engineer of the Year in 1997 by the Institution of Engineers Australia. Mr Eiszele is currently Non-Executive Chairman of Pearl Street Limited which provides performance services to operators of infrastructure in the energy and resources sectors.

Mr Marcus Gracey: Non-Executive Director

Mr Gracey is an accomplished lawyer with strong background in corporate and commercial law, company compliance, intellectual property and litigation. Mr Gracey is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Ipernica Limited, which is an Australian ASX listed company focussed on the monetisation of intellectual property and the commercialisation of emerging technologies.

Mr Gracey has extensive international legal and business experience, having also worked in previous senior positions as Managing Director of AIM listed Hot Tuna International Plc and as the Regional General Counsel for Quiksilver Asia Pacific, a global division of NYSE listed Quiksilver Inc. Mr Gracey holds Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics Degrees, a Master of Laws (Intellectual Property) Degree, a Graduate Diploma in Company Secretarial Practice and is a Chartered Company Secretary.

Mr Howard McLaughlin: Non-Executive Director 

Mr McLaughlin, B.Sc. Geology is an experienced corporate leader with an extensive international background focused on hydrocarbon exploration, appraisal and renewable business development.

Most recently Mr McLaughlin has pursued his interest in global alternative energy projects and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of GreenTech Renewables, LLC, an investment and operational group which brings together a team of international experts across the renewable energy sector.

He has over 30 years experience in the petroleum industry, 19 of these years with BHP Billiton worldwide. His most recent position was Vice President of Global Exploration, based in Houston Texas, where he had overall stewardship of BHP Billiton’s global petroleum assets managing worldwide expenditures in excess of USD $300 million annually.

Other recent key roles include Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Antares Energy Ltd (Amity Oil Ltd), an Australian public company engaged in oil and gas production in Texas and Oklahoma.

Management

Mr Jerome Randabel: Exploration Manager

Mr Randabel is a geologist with 18 years experience in the fields of mining production and minerals exploration. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Geology from the University of Adelaide. He has worked extensively in uranium mining and exploration for Heathgate Resources Pty Ltd and subsequently for Uranium Equities Ltd, and most recently Monaro Mining NL where he was the Chief Geologist responsible for designing and implementing exploration strategies both in Australia and overseas.  Mr Randabel's areas of expertise include 3D resource modelling and resource estimation, project evaluation and exploration management.

Mr Chris Matthews: Chief Geologist

Mr Matthews is the in-house competent person for the Company, as defined by the Australian Reporting Code for Geothermal Resources and Reserves 2009 Edition.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology with Honours in Geology from the University of Adelaide and has around 10  years experience in the fields of minerals exploration and mining, natural resource management, project management in government, and geothermal exploration using heat flow modelling. Mr Matthews is one of the few Australian geologists with the necessary skills and experience to competently undertake exploration for and modelling of Engineering Geothermal System..

Mr Robert Hodby: Company Secretary

Mr Hodby is an accountant with over fifteen years experience in various finance roles with a number of Western Australian based private entities and listed companies. Mr Hodby holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Murdoch University and is a member of CPA Australia and an affiliate of Chartered Secretaries Australia.
